Authorship
Anyone identified as an author must have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the research and to the writing of the article. They must be willing to take a shared responsibility in the research and in the article and approve the final version to be published.
Changes to authorship
Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors before submitting their manuscript and provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission. Any addition, deletion or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list should be made only before the manuscript has been accepted and only if approved by the journal Editor. To request such a change, the Editor must receive the following from the corresponding author:
the reason for the change in author list and
written confirmation (e-mail, letter) from all authors that they agree with the addition, removal or rearrangement. In the case of addition or removal of authors, this includes confirmation from the author being added or removed.
Only in exceptional circumstances will the Editor consider the addition, deletion or rearrangement of authors after the manuscript has been accepted. While the Editor considers the request, publication of the manuscript will be suspended. If the manuscript has already been published in an online issue, any timely requests, if approved, will result in a corrigendum.
Affiliations
Each affiliation must reflect the author’s institutional position at the time of submission. State the relevant department or unit, institution, city and country in both the manuscript. Use the institution’s official English name where one is available. Do not create an unofficial English translation of an institution’s name. Enter the department, faculty or other unit separately from the principal institution. Use consistent affiliation information in the manuscript, the public ORCID record. If an author changes institution after submission, the new affiliation should be added to their ORCID record. The affiliation in the published article will continue to reflect the author’s position at the time of submission.
ORCID iDs
Every author must have their own valid, current and publicly accessible ORCID iD. ORCID helps distinguish researchers with identical or similar names and connects their research activities with
a persistent identifier.
Provide every author’s ORCID iD in the manuscript and in their separate OJS contributor record.
Present the ORCID iD as a complete link in the form https://orcid.org/0000-0000-0000-0000. Confirm that the link resolves to the correct author.
Where applicable, the public ORCID record must include the author’s current affiliation.
Where applicable, set the visibility of the current affiliation to Everyone so that it appears in the public record.
Authors who do not yet have an ORCID iD must register before submission.
Do not create a new ORCID iD if you already have an ORCID record.
Guidance for authors: For a multi-authored manuscript, identify each author’s contribution using the official CRediT taxonomy. Use each author’s full name as given on the opening page, list all applicable roles and ensure that all authors approve the statement. Do not create custom role names. Enter the same CRediT roles for each author in OJS. Delete this section only for a single-authored manuscript.
Example: Ivan Macho: Methodology, Writing – review & editing; Lenka Kuková: Writing – original draft...
Note: The names of CRediT roles are generally left in their official English versions.

Regarding the content there are two basic types of scientific papers ::
- Original papers presenting new information and latest discoveries, new results, methods or findings.
- Overview papers summarizing or synthetizing data from literature. They represent descriptive or critical assessment of original articles and usually present an extensive list of bibliography.
Apart from scientific articles the journal publishes review papers and information:
- Review paper analyses and presents a personal opinion on a publication and whether it meets its purpose. It offers its position to other readers.
- Information is a report on an event already carried out or scheduled (e.g. a conference).
Size and form (of the article):
- The paper can be published in Slovak, Czech and English language,
- Include the title in English,
- Include abstract in English (10 to 12 lines),
- Include key words in English (5 - 10 key words),
- At the end of the text, include a full contact address of the author, the workplace/institution, position, phone number and email,
- In order to ensure clarity, it is convenient to divide articles into chapters,
- The scientific paper (study) has the range 8-20 pages (minimum 36 000 characters including space),
- The review paper and information has the range 1 - 4 pages.
Article Structure:
- authors should follow the IMRAD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion )
- Abstract – in English (10 – 12 lines)
- Keywords – in English (5 – 10 keywords)
- Introduction - should present the purpose of the article and identify the key information relevant to the topic (including a summary or overview of the current state of knowledge) and clearly define the aim of the article.
- Main Body - should provide a concise overview of the topic in both the domestic and international context, state the research objective, describe the methods and methodology used, present the main findings, and provide the author’s own interpretation of the contribution of the research.
- Discussion - the author should address the research questions and objectives defined in the Introduction. The findings and information obtained should be discussed and analysed and compared with findings reported by other authors and in previous research.
- Conclusion - should summarise the research results and provide recommendations or implications for theory and practice.
- Bibliographic References – the Harvard referencing system should be used in accordance with STN ISO 690 (01 0197), Information and documentation – Guidelines for bibliographic references and citations to information resources. In-text citations should be formatted as follows: Hollý (2020) or (Hollý 2019); Hollý et al. (2018) or (Hollý et al. 2017); and (Hollý et al. 2018, 2019; Valo, Mikles 2020; Behan 2023).
- It is important to format the references properly because all references will be linked electronically as completely as possible to the papers cited. It is necessary to add a DOI (digital object identifier) number, e.g. https://doi.org/10.52651/vr.j.2025.1. If a DOI is not available, authors are encouraged to provide a link to an online version of the cited article. All links must be active.
Artificial Intelligence
Authors should refer to the publisher's guidelines on acceptable use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools artificial intelligence (AI) tools. All submissions must comply with these guidelines.
Ethics and consent - A Research Ethics Statement
A Research Ethics Statement demonstrates that the research met the applicable ethical, legal and confidentiality requirements. Accurate reporting enables authors to record approval, informed consent, an exemption or relevant safeguards and supports the credibility of the published findings.
Research involving human subjects, human material, or human data, must have been performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Where applicable, studies must have been approved by an appropriate ethics committee and the authors should include a statement within the article text detailing this approval, including the name of the ethics committee and reference number of the approval. The identity of the research subject(s) should be anonymised whenever possible. For research involving human subjects, informed consent to participate in the study must be obtained from participants (or their legal guardian) and added to this statement. If a study involving human subjects/tissue/data was exempt from requiring ethical approval, a confirmation statement from the relevant body should be included within the submission.
Experiments using animals must follow national standards of care. For further information, see the ICMJE Recommendations for Protection of Research Participants.
When a statement is required
Include a Research Ethics Statement particularly where the research involved: human participants; interviews or surveys; identifiable or sensitive personal data; research activity requiring ethical approval, informed consent or confidentiality safeguards; an exemption from ethical approval, a waiver of informed consent or another decision by an appropriate body.
The use of interviews, surveys or personal data does not necessarily require formal approval under every institutional or legal framework. Where formal approval was not required, provide a brief explanation based on the applicable institutional, professional or legal rules.

Select and adapt only the wording that reflects the actual circumstances. Where necessary, combine the relevant elements into one complete Research Ethics Statement.
Supporting documentation
Do not upload ethics committee decisions, informed-consent forms, exemptions or other supporting documentation with the manuscript unless requested by the editorial team. Retain all relevant records and be prepared to provide them if requested.
Acknowledgements (optional)
Any acknowledgements must be headed and in a separate paragraph, placed after the main text but before the reference list.
Conflict of Interest
A Competing Interests Statement enables readers to assess financial, professional, institutional or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing the work. Complete disclosure supports transparency and is required even where no competing interests exist. A Competing Interests Statement is required for every manuscript. Declare any financial or non-financial relationship or circumstance that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, analysis, interpretation or presentation of the article. A Competing Interests statement must also be completed for each author.
What must be declared
A competing interest may arise from employment, an institutional role, funding, paid activity, membership of a decision-making or advisory body, or a personal or professional relationship relevant to the article. Declare relationships and circumstances that are directly related to the article’s subject, data, analysis, findings or publication process and could reasonably be perceived as influencing the work. Where you are uncertain whether a relationship is relevant, disclose it to the editorial team.
Employment and affiliation
Employment or affiliation alone does not constitute a competing interest. This includes employment with or affiliation with the Armed Forces Academy or the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic. The relationship must nevertheless be declared where the author’s role, responsibilities or institutional interests are directly related to the article’s subject, data, analysis or findings and could reasonably be perceived as influencing the work.
Funding and competing interests
Report all financial or material support in the Funding section. Repeat it under Competing Interests only where the relationship with the funder, the funding conditions or the funder’s role could also be perceived as influencing the research or the decision to publish the article.
Selecting the appropriate statement
Select and adapt only the statement or statements that reflect the actual circumstances. Delete all unused options from the template. Where a competing interest concerns only one or some of the authors, identify them by full name and, where applicable, conclude by stating that all other authors declare no competing interests. Use the no-competing-interests statement only where none of the authors has a relevant financial or non-financial relationship that should be declared.
Final check
- A Competing Interests Statement is included in every manuscript.
- Relevant financial and non-financial relationships have been considered.
- Affected authors are identified by full name.
- Funding is repeated under Competing Interests only where it may also constitute a competing interest.
- The no-competing-interests statement is used only where it applies to every author.
- A Competing Interests statement is completed for each author.
- Unused options and guidance have been deleted from the manuscript.
